Motor Controllers

A motor controller receives power and transfers that power to a motor drive which then convert it into signals that interface with a motor. The motor drives could be a position control circuitry or an amplifier. Motor controllers are used with various types of motors including brushed motors, brushless motors, synchronous or servo motors and many types of stepper motors use motor controllers.

Selecting a motor controller requires an understanding of the application. For example, motor speed controllers are application specific and can be used to control machines such as conveyors, or robotics. Motor controllers come in different electrical ratings, configurations, and features. Features for motor controllers include soft start, brake outputs, or alarms.

Given the variety of the options associated with various Motor Controllers, contact your local BDI branch to help you with the motor controller set up that is right for your operation.
